I think the entrance of Rob Ford into the mayor's office has ushered an era of common sense in city hall, much like Premier Harris did at Queens Park in the 90's. As an act which is as symbolic, the great City of Toronto has changed its PR tagline.
Under Mayor Miller, it was:
“Toronto is Canada’s largest city and sixth largest government, and home to a diverse population of about 2.6 million people. It is the economic engine of Canada and one of the greenest and most creative cities in North America. Toronto has won numerous awards for quality, innovation and efficiency in delivering public services. Toronto’s government is dedicated to prosperity, opportunity and liveability for all its residents. For information about non-emergency City services and programs, Toronto residents, businesses and visitors can dial 311, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."
The new tagline under mayor Ford is:
Toronto is Canada’s largest city and sixth largest government, and home to a diverse population of about 2.6 million people. Toronto’s government is dedicated to delivering customer service excellence, creating a transparent and accountable government, reducing the size and cost of government and building a transportation city. For information on non-emergency City services and programs, Toronto residents, businesses and visitors can dial 311, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
It's nice to see city hall dropping vacuous statements about being diverse and green and focusing on its true mandate, of providing a range of municipal services efficiently and adequately.
It will be nice to see some real changes that extend beyond a PR tagline. It all starts in the city's self perception, hopefully it will trickle down to us! (SOURCE: NP)
